Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 5, 2026

Summary

This policy applies to both Snipetic for Chrome and Snipetic for Microsoft Edge. Neither edition collects, uploads, sells, or shares screenshots, annotations, captured images, page content, browsing history, personal files, or payment details.

The Edge edition generates one anonymous ID used to manage the 7-day Pro trial and validate Pro licenses. The Chrome edition makes no trial or license API calls — no anonymous ID is generated, no trial record is created, and no calls are made to api.snipetic.com.

What we store and where

Snipetic stores data in your browser's extension storage using the Chromium extension APIs chrome.storage.local and chrome.storage.sync, which are supported by both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. This storage is on your device.

Screenshots you capture are held temporarily in local storage while the viewer tab is open, then discarded. Your preferences (fixed nav toggle and other capture settings) are stored persistently in local storage. In Snipetic for Microsoft Edge, your Pro license key is also stored locally if you activate one.

Project files saved via the Save Project feature (.snipetic) are downloaded directly to your local filesystem. They are not stored in extension storage and are never transmitted anywhere.

Snipetic does not collect or store your browsing history, the URLs of pages you visit, or the content of pages you capture.

Snipetic for Chrome

Snipetic for Chrome is a free edition. It does not include Pro checkout, trial activation, or license-status checks. The Chrome edition makes no calls to api.snipetic.com or any payment or license API. No anonymous trial ID is generated and no trial record is created on any server.

The only outbound network requests from the Chrome edition are standard Google Fonts requests made when the extension UI loads, which are covered under the Google Fonts section below.

Snipetic for Microsoft Edge: trial and license

The Edge edition offers an optional 7-day Pro trial. To manage it, the extension generates a random anonymous ID (a UUID) on first install and stores it in chrome.storage.sync. This ID is sent to api.snipetic.com to record when your trial started and calculate how many days remain. The ID is not linked to your identity, your Microsoft account, your browsing activity, or any other personal information. It is used solely to ensure trial periods are honored consistently.

Trial records are retained on our server to ensure trial integrity. The record contains only the anonymous UUID and the trial start date — no personal information.

If you purchase a Pro license, your license key is validated directly between the extension and LemonSqueezy's API. Snipetic does not process or store your license key on its own servers. No personal data beyond the license key itself is transmitted to LemonSqueezy.

Permissions and why we need them

activeTab — to capture the current tab's screenshot and inject in-page tools when you trigger a capture or invoke a design tool. Access is scoped to the single tab you are actively using at the moment you invoke the extension.

scripting — to inject the in-page tools (ruler, font analyzer, element picker, etc.) into the page you're inspecting, on demand and only when you invoke a tool. No scripts are loaded into any page until you actively use one.

storage / unlimitedStorage — to hold screenshots locally between the capture and the viewer tab opening.

offscreen — to stitch full-page screenshots together without hitting service worker memory limits.

What we do not do

We do not collect analytics, crash reports, or usage data. We do not use any third-party SDKs or tracking libraries. We do not transmit screenshots, annotations, captured images, page content, or browsing history to any server. Neither edition of Snipetic ever sends captured content off your device.

We do not sell user data. We do not transfer or share user data with advertising platforms, data brokers, or any other third parties. User data is never used for personalized advertising.

Store compliance

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Snipetic is also available on the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store; the same data practices apply to both distributions.

Third-party services

api.snipetic.com — Snipetic's trial tracking server, used by the Edge edition only. Receives the anonymous trial ID and returns the number of trial days remaining. The Chrome edition does not contact this server. See the Server Logs section below for information about incidental infrastructure logging.

Google Fonts — Snipetic's UI loads fonts from fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com. Your browser makes a standard HTTPS request to download font files. Google may log your IP address as part of that request. Google's privacy policy governs those requests: policies.google.com/privacy. This applies to both the Chrome and Edge editions.

LemonSqueezy — Used by the Edge edition only. If you purchase a Pro license, your license key is validated directly between the extension and LemonSqueezy's API. Snipetic does not process or store your license key on its own servers. No personal data beyond the license key itself is transmitted to LemonSqueezy. The Chrome edition does not interact with LemonSqueezy in any way.

Server logs

The Snipetic Chrome extension does not contact api.snipetic.com and generates no extension-originated server logs on our infrastructure. Visiting snipetic.com, like any website, may generate standard web server access logs regardless of which browser or edition you use. The extension-specific details in this section apply to Snipetic for Microsoft Edge only.

When the Edge edition contacts api.snipetic.com for trial checks, the server may generate standard infrastructure access logs — including IP address, timestamp, and request path — as a normal operational side effect of nginx and Express.

IP addresses are also used temporarily in memory to enforce rate limits on new trial registrations (no more than 5 new trial registrations per IP address per hour). This is done solely to prevent abuse. IP addresses are not written to the database or retained beyond the rate-limit window.

These logs and rate-limit records are not used for tracking, profiling, or advertising. Access logs are subject to standard server log rotation.

Security

Data stored locally is accessible only to Snipetic through the browser's extension sandboxing model — other extensions and websites cannot read it. In Snipetic for Microsoft Edge, communications between the extension and api.snipetic.com are transmitted over HTTPS.

Control and deletion

Uninstalling Snipetic removes locally stored extension data, including screenshots and preferences. In Snipetic for Microsoft Edge, uninstalling also removes your Pro license key, trial status, and the anonymous trial ID stored in chrome.storage.sync. The server-side trial record (anonymous UUID and trial start date only) is retained for trial integrity and contains no personal information. In Snipetic for Chrome, no server-side record is ever created.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of Snipetic after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
